Google Analytics is a free and super powerful and useful tool for any website developer or business owner out there. It allows you to track and record the visitors to your website and gather insightful data that you would not be aware of without having it installed on your website. The three below metrics are a great way to determine the quantity and quality of the users visiting your site during any given period.

Users

The main gauge of a website to determine if it is doing better or worse than previous months is to look at how many visitors have accessed the site. You want to be aiming for more visitors than the previous month as this indicates growth but more important than quantity of users is the quality. This can be monitored through a number of other metrics on the platform but the two below help to a large degree.

Acquisition

Knowing where each user originated from is a way of knowing which marketing activities are working and which may need some tweaking. For example, you may find from looking at your acquisition that 90% of all traffic is coming from PPC which means well done on your successful ad campaign but it might indicate that your organic listings and therefore SEO needs some work.

Page Views

Another great indicator that determines the quality of the users visiting the site is assessing how many pages on average they look at. Typically, the higher the number here, the more engaged the user is and a more engaged user is typically more likely to convert into a customer. This metric does want to be looked at with caution though as depending on how your site is structured it might not be necessary for an engaged and prospective visitor to the site to browse multiple pages.
