This was the speediest pub visit we have ever been to and still is to this day. We were there for a total of twenty minutes give or take. This included ordering our food, receiving it, eating it, paying our bill and leaving. Sounds impossible, but we somehow managed it.
The pub itself is lovely. A very historical pub in a great location. We got to the pub to be told we had to to go the bar to order our food and drink which is a shame as they do have a restaurant which has table service but we are guessing this was full. We were placed on a very awkward table clearly not designed for eating dinner from. Very small and not at a typical table height.
The menu was also quite limited with only a handful of items to choose from. So limited in fact that Ellie who doesn’t even like burgers opted for the beef burger and chips. Ellie found the bun to be dry and the meat not great either. The food arrived just a few minutes after ordering which sounds like a good thing but does make you wonder if the food was sitting there ready to go on a hot plate and the chips sitting in oil.
With only being in the pub for less than half an hour, Ian was keen to spend some more time with his fellow pub reviewer and so suggested a walk along the seafront. Afterall, the Pilot Inn is only a short walk from the lovely Holywell section of Eastbourne beach. Ellie initially turned her nose up at the idea of exercise but Ian managed to convince her. We didn’t get very far though – just to the bandstand and back.
The Pilot Inn, Eastbourne scored a total of 57 out of 100 available points and therefore has been awarded a gold trophy. See the complete score breakdown below.
