Pub Review Guide

The Plough, Upper Dicker

This is where it all began. Little did we know that a visit to a country pub would end up starting a soon to be monthly tradition of visiting a new pub. Ian had heard great things about this place from a friend at his work and after a chat with Ellie, they both decided they should go to the pub and have a nice meal there. We arrived and found the car park located to the rear of the pub. No problem, but the car park was riddled with gargantuan pot holes. So large in fact, that Ian’s car went through one of these holes and the entire car tipped from side to side as we were leaving. Parking aside, we entered the pub via the side door. It was a ‘rather dated’ dining room attached to the pub. Quite a funky match of decor and none of it really worked.
It is hard to tell from the above photo. This was back when Ian only took a couple of photos at each pub visited. He has got better, although it is still awkward whipping out your camera whilst there is a pub full of punters tucking into their steak and ale pie. Notice the red painted ceiling, the black chandelier, the mosaic silver looking mirror and the gold and black trim photo frames. What is not to love?
Above you can see Ian’s fish and chips that were served on a slice of wood, and Ellie’s ham, egg and chips. They are trying their hardest but what is wrong with serving fish and chips on a plate? This was our first pub meal and we were not too critical. You will see, that begins to change as we begin to explore and venture out to more pubs.
