The Smugglers Inn, Pevensey

Visited: February 2018

This was for Ian’s birthday.

We opted for a fairly local spot that we had both seen numerous times but had not visited. Ian drove and pulled into the car-park. It was completely packed, every single parking spot was taken. Thankfully we managed to find a space nearby.

We went into the bar and thought how lovely. It was cosy and warm but also packed (the car park was full because what appeared to be the worlds largest band were performing). We approached the bar and mentioned that we have a booking. We were shown around to the dining area…. It was so so so dated! Beautiful 80’s tablecloths greeted us and when Ellie asked for a glass for the water, the waitress said you have glassed on the tables and pointed at the upside down slightly stained wine glass. Delightful we thought. The food, well, Ellie opted for the pie and boiled potatoes. She wasn’t very fond of this and said it tasted like your shop brought frozen pie. Ian opted for the fish and chips which to be fair wasn’t too bad – it even came with a wedge of lemon. Fancy!

The atmosphere was not too great either. It was silent except for the children screaming in the background. We would have much preferred to have been seated in the cosy and lively bar area for this meal.
